Freelance Assignments Platform, Freelancer.com, Launches IndiaPortal

Freelance Assignments Platform, Freelancer.com, Launches IndiaPortal

Monday February 13, 2012 , 2 min Read

Freelancer.com, a well-known freelance assignments site based in Australia, launched their India portal on 9th February. The website will provide Indian freelance professionals the perfect platform to grab assignments in IT, content development, designing and various other verticals.

The India site, Freelancer.in, will allow transactions in rupees. So now employers can hire locally and making payments will also be easy as a freelancer can receive payments directly in their local bank accounts.

Matt Barrie, CEO, Freelancer said that in 2011 Indian freelancer professionals worked on more than 200,000 projects on Freelancer.com. India is a very important market for the portal. While speaking to reporters he revealed that Indians constitute 38% of Freelancer’s user base, which is the largest among people from any particular nationality.

Indian employers are also using the platform to locate freelancers. About 9% of projects posted on Freelancer.com originated from India. Matt further added that with the launch of the Indian portal Freelancer wants the India user base to increase to 2 million and handle transactions to the tune of $15 to $20 million.

Freelancer does not charge freelance job seekers or employers to register on the site. They get 10% of every payment made. If an employer decides to become a member then the commission rate is reduced for them.
