The Freelance Industry gets One More Boost with WorknHire.com

The Freelance Industry gets One More Boost with WorknHire.com

Tuesday June 26, 2012 , 3 min Read

Freelancing is a different approach to doing a particular job at one’s comfort and a preferred time. In recent times it has come up in such a big way that fields like journalism, content development, software development, business documentation, coaching or creative services have been explored thoroughly by freelancers. Taking advantage of the current scenario, Excellence Technologies’ team launched Work N Hire to connect freelancers and clients to each other.
Work N Hire is the brainchild of two people, Kumar Mukul and Manish Prakash, who left their corporate jobs 3.5 years back to take the plunge into entrepreneurship. Mukul, an IIT KGP grad, joined Headstrong, India, after his studies. He later left it to set up Excellence Technologies with Manish. Mukul oversees all the marketing and sales aspects. Manish, an IIT Guwahati grad, has a total of 4 year of work experience in various fields including web development and building ecommerce websites. As the Co-Founder, Manish helps out with the technical aspects and is also the lead developer and the chief architect.
Work N Hire is a marketplace where people can post their project requirements and freelancers apply for these projects. Projects can be posted in various categories like IT & Programming, Graphic Design, Content Writing, Data Entry, Finance and Sales & Marketing. Creating an account, finding work or posting a project is free of cost. Once the project is awarded to a freelancer a separate workroom is created for both parties where they can interact, set project milestones, create invoices and communicate with each other. After the project is awarded both parties agree to some terms which mention timeframe and cost of the project.

As far as payment is concerned, clients can either directly pay the invoices to the freelancer or he can prepare an escrow of the funds with Work N Hire. Escrow is a system in which Work N Hire holds the client’s money temporarily until the project is successfully completed by the freelancer, and once client is satisfied that the project is complete, he can release the funds to the freelancer. Escrow payment is a system which ensures payment-safety for both, clients and freelancers. All transactions show up in the Work N Hire account summary and freelancers can withdraw these funds (after it’s released) to their personal bank account through NEFT, Cheque or Paypal withdrawals.

In case of disputes Work N Hire tries to arbitrate between client and freelancer to settle the dispute to a mutual agreement. Work N Hire arbitrates only when Escrow system is used and their decision is binding.

Currently they charge a 5% fee [excluding service tax] on every payment made to the freelancers. They are also working on more ways to monetize by adding services like profile verification, skill tests etc. In the first month of their launch, more than 2500 people have registered on their site, which serves as a testimony of their work.

Work N Hire also aims to add many features in future such as Payment gateway integration, Pre Packaged Services, Digital Goods Market, Profile Verification Service, Dispute Resolution Service and Skill Tests etc.

Why don’t you freelance here?
