CHERISHmaternity raises funds from Marquee Angel Investors

Thursday July 05, 2012 , 2 min Read

CHERISHmaternity, a venture that provides Indianized Maternity, Motherhood and Infant, products and services under the `CHERISH' brand, has raised a round of angel investment from marquee investors Rehan Yar Khan, Blume Ventures, Rajan Anandan, Sunil Kalra, Farooq Oomerbhoy and others.

The company which commenced e-commerce operations in late 2011, offers an extensive collection of pure Cotton Apparels (kurtis, frocks, skirts, denims, dungrees etc) and Accessories (pillows, belts etc), Nightwear, Baby shower gifts. Funds will be deployed to expand its offerings and in building the best e-commerce experience.  CHERISH also runs 3 offline stores in Bangalore and partners with a few others in select cities.

Arathi Kuppu, the Founder and CEO of CHERISH, brings in more than a decade`s experience in leading initiatives for pioneers like AltaVista Search, Nokia and Palm in the US. She founded CHERISH with a passion to make a significant difference in the lives of women though a unique set of products being specifically designed to serve the cultural and social requirements, beliefs and traditions of Indian women and, of course, the weather!

"This is one of the most under-served categories in India today and financial independence amongst women, coupled with awareness and social changes will make it one of the fastest growing categories of the future," said Arathi Kuppu. " We want to establish CHERISH as the most preferred brand, in the Maternity, Motherhood and Infant category, in the next 12-18 months," she added.

"CherishMaternity is an exciting brand as it addresses the 5 Million strong annual maternity market. This market is largely underserved both online and offline. In Aarthi Kuppu, a mother herself, we have an experienced and competent founder who is not just retailing maternity products but building out a strong brand" says Rehan Yar Khan who will join the Board of Directors of CHERISH.

Karthik Reddy of Blume Ventures added that "the 9-12 months before and after childbirth is a period that is probably most important in a woman's life and changing urban cultures mean that she can use all the resources to make this phase of her life a lot more cherishable. Blume is happy to back Arathi's vision on this endeavor"

Arathi is advised by Rajiv Prakash, ex-CEO of FutureBazaar.com and R.Sathyajit, COO of Brand Allen Solly and mentored by Sanjay Anandaram.

The funding process was assisted by Creedcap Asia and Linklegal Associates.
