Thursday August 08, 2013 , 2 min Read

Test-prep in India is a rather crowded market for a startup to enter but the sector holds immense promise (the tutoring business is pegged to grow to INR 75,600 crores by 2014-15). There have been quite a few investments in the space as well and the whole idea of getting traction for online test preparation is catching up. 100Marks is one of the companies in this space that was founded in April 2012 and has been attempting at cracking the problem via IIT-JEE preparation first.

100Marks helps engineering aspirants with their self-study through guidance and self-assessment.100Marks provides free guidance through the Q&A portal, JEE Preparation through topic wise tests built on a quality question bank with over 4,000 questions and also provides news and updates related to test preparation to students.

The company is a part of the recently graduated Batch 9 of the Morpheus Accelerator. 100marks is founded by Pradeep Kumar and Anushri Kocher both of whom hold a master’s degree in engineering and then some corporate experience where they both met. “There are numerous portals on web providing engineering entrance related content and most of them are content farms with lot of wrong information, we started 100Marks to provide right guidance to students preparing for engineering entrance examinations,” says Pradeep. The duo works with a team of 20 experienced teachers from reputed institutes to develop the content.

“We’re seeing some good traction from the tier2/3 cities and even smaller towns as this is an opportunity they didn’t have before,” says Pradeep. 100marks also launched Daily online classes for JEE and expert guidance this week which are paid services and this has not deterred students from taking them up.The vision of 100Marks is to create a platform where students can learn from the best of the teachers around the country and prepare for professional entrance examinations, right from their homes. 100marks has a very active Facebook Page for IIT JEE Help which has generated more than 2.3 lakh fans organically and 100 marks claims to have received over 2 million page views last month. Having graduated from the accelerator, the company is also looking for a follow up round of funding to scale up.
