The art of writing

Dipayan Pal is a class nine student of Don Bosco School, Bendel (West Bengal). As a kid, he was fond of writing poems, short tales, but in 2012, he started taking things a bit more seriously. “In 2012, I suddenly felt that I have a passion for writing through which I can connect with the readers throughout the world. So, the very first step, I took was to write my opinion under for the feedback column of the The Telegraph.”

Slowly, his writings started showing up for different newspapers, magazines and blogs. He also enthusiastically adds that his writings were published in Science Reporter and Business Economics under opinions column. He also writes school reports, articles and technology columns for the Times of India (NIE Edition) and for The Telegraph in Schools (TTIS).

Dipayan's interest mainly lies in technological, political and social issues. He shares, “I write articles to continue my passion for writing and to connect with the readers throughout the whole world.”

Computer, technology and open internet

Dipayan first interaction with computers was in class four; he used to visit cyber cafes for the same. Two years later, when he got his first computer he started learning new programming languages. Starting with BASIC, he quickly moved on to Java, Visual Basic etc. He even created a small app for his blog, where he writes about software, games, entertainment etc. Dipayan chirps in, “I am more hooked to web site designing than programming. I have learnt web page designing via online sites like W3schools , New Boston , Udacity and many more.” Advancing on the knowledge of CSS, Javascript, HTML 5, PHP, he has created websites for small organisations. He has has many awards by creating web pages, he was designated the winner at Bosco Xprezns (Inter-school fest) and at Bosco Utsav (Inter-School fest).

Dipayan happens to be a certified Google Power Searcher and is also involved with different projects with NASA like Pavilion lake project, High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment of University of Arizona and NASA. Dipayan further mentions that he is a supporter of open internet and supports its cause. He adds, “It is because of open web, we can upload YouTube videos or watch them, we can be on Facebook (connect with new people), get the facility of distant education and launch websites, blogs and many more as per as our wish. I firmly believe the concept lead by Google – A free and open world depends on the free and open web.”

Dipayan is a perfect example how age is not a factor for students to do something. He later shares that he is a member of The Stardust team researching on particle tracks on Aerogel Particles brought by the Stardust Spacecraft.

Balance is the key point

On being asked as to how he tends to balance his studies and other activities he replies that he has developed efficient time management to achieve everything. “I manage my time in a proper way. When the time is to study, I completely concentrate on my books and when the time is for doing co-curricular activities, I completely give my heart and soul into it (writing /programming)."

Although his heart is more inclined towards his co-curricular activities, he is totally devoted to his books during study-time.
