Diwali is one of India’s most beloved festivals, and the sheer beauty of the celebrations brings tears to the eyes (OK, maybe that’s from the fireworks and smoke!). Lights and rangoli accompany sweets and fireworks, but at the end of the day people always ask the same questions. Can we reduce pollution and health risks? Is it worth burning money in firecrackers, or is it part of celebration and also support for another industry?
Whatever the outcome, the festival is a regular annual celebration of victory, prosperity and creativity. Through these photographs of the stunning varieties of rangoli and other decorations, we celebrate the exuberance and joyousness of Diwali. YourStory salutes the spirit of creativity and entrepreneurship, and wishes all our readers a happy, safe and clean Diwali!
