With Localwire you will know everything happening around you

Saturday May 14, 2016 , 3 min Read

Ever missed out on a huge event that you didn’t know was happening in your locality? Or an exhibition that you’d have killed to go to if only you had known that it was happening somewhere near you? Or a campaign that just walked past your street when you were out wondering where the venue was?

If you answered yes to these questions, the new app in town – Localwire, is definitely for you. It will help you stay in the loop and not miss out on any big/small happenings in your neighbourhood. Making each user a contributor, the app offers a promising solution to the daunting task of staying abreast of local events.

Localwire is a social networking app, developed by Vishakhapatnam-based software engineer Rakesh Polisetty and his team. The app aims at keeping users updated on what’s up in their vicinity and helping them connect with people in their area. Rather than staying connected through one social media network, Localwire ensures that each user is aware of all available deals, events and opportunities within a radius of 100 kilometres.

“The idea struck me when I was in Hyderabad. I missed a voter campaign that was held in the street adjacent to the one I was staying in just because I didn’t know of it. When we are not aware of what is happening around us, we miss many important events. This thought led to the birth of Localwire,” Rakesh explains. After eight months of solid groundwork, he launched the app on December 22, 2014.

With a team of nine providing technical support, Localwire presently boasts four main features:

  • ‘News Around’, that works as newsfeed.
  • ‘Vendors Around’, to share business deals or run promotional campaigns.
  • ‘Connected’, to post news related to various departments.
  • ‘Pick Location’, to check what is happening in your current location by adjusting the distance anywhere between 1 to 100km.

Localwire is all about news around you. In simple words, it is much like a street newspaper. Users can click photos and post about happenings in their neighbourhood—be it an event, an interesting incident or even a sale. The advantage of Localwire as compared to other social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter is that its reach is far better as you are connected to locals. It can also be used by businesses and stores to send out messages and notices of sales and local events.

Within a span of a little over a year of its launch, Localwire has clocked 7,000 downloads and nearly 14,500 posts have been shared on it. The app has seen around 2.8 lakh views till date and has an average of around 5,000 screen views per day. Localwire also bagged the best pitch award at the recently held StartAP Fest 2016 that celebrates entrepreneurship in Andhra Pradesh.

Currently, the app is available on Google Play Store and Apple store, catering to Hyderabad, Vishakhapatnam and Bengaluru. Rakesh and his team aim at hitting a target of 1,00,000 app downloads and taking Localwire global by the end of 2016.
