5 healthy habits every entrepreneur needs to cultivate

5 healthy habits every entrepreneur needs to cultivate

Tuesday August 02, 2016 , 3 min Read

According to a study published by Phillippa Lally, a health psychology researcher, it takes more than two months, on an average, before a new behaviour becomes automatic. Making a conscious decision to change your lifestyle and make it a habit has been shown to have immense positive benefits. Entrepreneurs often let their health take a backseat while they march towards success. Running a business, however, will not be possible without paying due attention to your health.

Take a look at these five healthy habits that entrepreneurs can incorporate into their daily lives for optimum results in their physical and emotional well-being. In fact, this list of habits is easy to stick to and so simple that you won’t even feel like you are putting in an effort.

Don’t ignore your breakfast

Your morning habits tend to have a profound impact on your health as well as your mood. Most entrepreneurs or working people often claim that their busy schedules do not allow them to spare a few minutes for a healthy breakfast every day. Skipping breakfast not only affects your health but also weakens your cognitive functions like focus, creativity and decision-making. Successful people like Richard Branson and Mark Zuckerberg always ensure that they start off their days with a healthy breakfast. Some of them even stick to strict and healthy breakfast regime.

Monitor your diet

Include whole food, fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. Avoid processed and refined food. Busy people often tend to eat out a lot. This habit is not only unhealthy but also expensive. Commit a few hours of the day to cook fresh, healthy food. Make a meal plan for the week ahead during the weekend itself and shop for your groceries accordingly. You can also choose to stock up your refrigerator with homemade nutritious soups and salads for days when you don’t feel like cooking.

Exercise regularly

It might seem too much to take out time for a long workout from your hectic schedule. However, aim to incorporate some form of exercise for at least 15 minutes daily. Exercise improves your problem-solving skills, alleviates stress and leaves you energetic and refreshed. Without exercise, your health might take a toll, and this will eventually lead to decreased productivity at work.

Practice happiness and positivity

Being an entrepreneur is no cakewalk. While starting up, every entrepreneur faces their share of troubles. Amidst all that chaos, it is imperative to stay positive and happy, as your emotional well-being has a deep impact on your physical well-being and professional success. Take a few minutes off your busy schedule to do little things that make you happy. Meditation and breathing exercises can also help you stay calm. You can also choose to try alternate, fun methods like Laughter Yoga with your family or friends to unwind after a hectic day.

Regulate your sleeping habits

Arianna Huffington says that sleep will be the big idea that shapes 2016. For ages together, we have linked lack of sleep with a better focus towards work. However, research has found that sleep deprivation is an actual medical condition that can lead to numerous short-term as well as long-term health hazards. Regulate your sleep patterns and try not to digress from it. Most successful people advise an ‘early to bed and early to rise’ routine.
