Friday September 09, 2016 , 4 min Read

The Internet of Things (IoT) market in India is poised to reach $15 billion by 2020, accounting for five percent of the global market, according to a report by NASSCOM. The revolution of IoT will eventually reflect in our everyday lives, starting from healthcare, manufacturing, and home automation, and extending to smart cities. The first edition of IoT India Congress 2016 kicked off on 6th September in Bengaluru. The three day session brought together IoT practitioners and enablers, and covered topics like retail, healthcare, manufacturing and smart cities.

Cubical SmartHomes

Cubical SmartHomes has a smart energy monitoring and management system, which tracks energy usage on a real-time basis, thus enabling users to reduce consumption and conserve resources. The smart and intuitive app helps you understand average energy consumption through graphs on a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly basis, track consumption spikes, and figure out when a device is faulty as well.

It allows users to switch on/off all lights, fans, ACs and other electrical appliances in their homes and to take control of their security needs from anywhere through smartphones. The system can be integrated with cameras to avail live feeds on smartphones and tablets. Cubical SmartHomes also gives users the option of dimming the light to reduce eye strain and save energy.

According to an estimate, there will be 80 billion connected devices by 2020. With the growing buzz in this space in the past few years, Cisco’s venture capital arm, Cisco Investments, has reportedly been increasing its investment in IoT startups to the tune of $150 million globally since 2014; it projects that the IoE industry can be a $14.4 trillion market by 2022.

Cisco has invested in IoT accelerators and startups such as Alchemist Accelerator, Ayla Networks and EVRYTHNG. Moreover, Ashoka University, DLabs at the Indian School of Business and Microsoft Ventures have joined hands to create the AIM Smart City accelerator programme, which will empower startups with both funding and technological assistance.
