Women drivers own the road in women-only rally in Bengaluru

Women drivers own the road in women-only rally in Bengaluru

Tuesday July 25, 2017 , 2 min Read

The drivers, many with their girl gangs and a few with their children as navigators, participated with enthusiasm in a rally to celebrate women drivers and spread awareness on road safety.

Last weekend saw Bengaluru roads being taken over by a bunch of exuberant women drivers. The second edition of Driven, a car rally for women, saw the participation of over 250 women from different age groups and varied walks of life. Organised by Zeroin Management, the idea behind the rally was not competition but a fun day for women, to celebrate women drivers, and also spread awareness on road safety.

The participants brought along between one and three navigators, whether their friends, spouses, or children. The sense of excitement was palpable as fitness expert Wanitha Ashok and international rallyist Anitha Kholay flagged off the event.

Any woman with a valid driving licence could participate. The rally, which kickstarted from Bowring Institute, included exciting tasks on the way along with a tulip chart (route map). The drivers drove through the scenic stretches of Nandi Hills and concluded the journey at Bowring Institute.

Arvind J Sabhaney, CEO of Zeroin Management, said, “Driven is all about celebrating women behind the wheel. Rallies like Driven help in breaking stereotypes about a woman’s driving skills. It’s a fun journey of driving together and cheering women who love to explore the roads like never before.”

From dealing with derisive comments to outright road rage, most women drivers in our country face negative experiences. Such events will infuse a sense of positivity in women who have to deal with navigating our congested roads and have the added advantage of being a day for women to bond with each other and get a break from responsibilities at home and work.
