This Delhi gurudwara is feeding Tamil Nadu's protesting farmers

Time and again, the Sikh community across the globe has taught us lessons in humanity. From serving tea/coffee to the individuals standing in queues during demonetisation to helping victims after the deadly terror attack at the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, the community has been associated with some beautiful acts of kindness and the latest one just drives the point home.

Delhi's Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is delivering food from their 'langar' to Jantar Mantar every day to feed several farmers from Tamil Nadu. According to a report by NDTV, the gurudwara has been providing free food to these distraught farmers, who have been in the capital for over three months now. The state of Tamil Nadu, which has observed the worst drought in 140 years, is fighting for a loan waiver and a drought-relief package.

The protest has seen the farmers drinking their own urine, beating themselves up, and attempting suicide, all just to get the government to notice them. Manjit Singh, President of the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC), told NDTV,

These protesters at Jantar Mantar come from far places. Neither do they know the language nor where to go to eat. So we deliver langar food twice a day to them. The food packets include roti, sabzi, dal, and kheer.

Speaking about their silent support to the farmers in this time of distress, Manjit added,

It is Guru Ka Langar; their job was only to serve those who sought Guru's help. While the gurudwara has nothing to do with the protest, they have still opened their kitchens and hearts to these farmers, to make sure they don't go hungry.
