India now has its first ever tourism university in West Bengal
The country will have its first ever tourism university 'IIHM University' in West Bengal under the WB Pvt University Act. One of the oldest and famous hospitality and tourism institutes of India, International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM), is undertaking the operations of the new university.

Presently, IIHM offers courses like sustainable tourism, eco-tourism, tourism development, tourism in digital world, and hospitality and tourism studies.
There are currently 6,500 students who are pursuing various courses in both India and Thailand campuses. Due to its immense collaborations and affiliations, people from other countries like South Korea, Bangladesh, Singapore, and many more come to the institute for their studies. The mentors here are from across the world as well, thus resulting in a multicultural environment and a good exposure for the students.
An investment of Rs 150 crore for establishment of the university will be done by the IIHM. Out of the total investment, Rs 70 crore has already been invested for infrastructure and cutting-edge facilities in the Salt Lake Electronic Complex Sector 5.
According to Times of India, IIHM Group’s CEO Suborno Bose said,
Our vision is to co-create one of the finest Tourism University in the world, which will strive to provide huge employment opportunities for the students in West Bengal.
A Culinary Olympiad will also be organised by the university for the world’s Young Chefs, which will see participation from 50 nations. According to the Indian Express, Padma Shri awardee Sanjeev Kapoor said,
I am happy to be associated with events of a global scale that are being organised in India like Young Chef Olympiad by IIHM and Dr. Bose.
IIHM has received several awards over the past 24 years such as the Economic Times’ Best Education Brand Award in 2017. URS International also honoured IIHM as one of the World's Greatest Brands and Leaders 2015-16.
