Now, bikes-on-rent service at 36 metro stations in Bengaluru
Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) recently started an initiative to provide bikes-on-rent service at the metro stations to improve last-mile connectivity for travellers. This smart urban mobility solution, Metro Bikes, will now be expanded, and would be made available at 36 of the 42 metro stations in the city.

The inaugural event for the bikes-on-rent service will take place at the Cubbon Park metro station. While speaking with The Hindu, the Managing Director (MD) of BMRCL, Mahendra Jain, said,
The metro bike operator will pay ₹2.75 crore per year as rent for the dedicated space. We had floated tender for metro bikes from all the stations. There were three bidders. The successful bidder will operate the bike taxis from 36 stations.
This initiative was also brought in with the aim to increase the non-fare revenue generated by BMRCL, and to build a good and reliable source of revenue. The bikes will be provided to the commuters at a price of Rs 5 per km and Rs 0.5 per minute.
While speaking with the Times Of India, co-founder of Metro Bikes, Vivekananda Hallekere, said,
The primary objective of this initiative is to provide a solution to the first and last mile of commute problems. Around 65 to 100 bikes are available at 36 metro stations which people can utilise.
The BMRCL says that Bengaluru will be the first city to provide bikes-on-rent service at such a large scale. Various two-wheeler rental startups have joined hands with Namma Metro to bring this service to the commuters. The operators are not just going to rent out bikes, but will also provide bicycles for rent.
Things will get much more convenient for the commuters with this service. The traveller can now take a bike to the place they are going, and return it on their way back.
