Swiggy acquires Mumbai-based on-demand delivery platform Scootsy

Swiggy acquires Mumbai-based on-demand delivery platform Scootsy

Thursday August 02, 2018 , 2 min Read

Bengaluru-based online food delivery platform Swiggy announced on Thursday that it had acquired Scootsy, an intracity service that delivers food, toys, beauty, electronics and more to a customer’s doorstep.

While the details of the deal were undisclosed, the press statement shared by Swiggy said Mumbai-based Scootsy will continue as an independent app. Swiggy will help strengthen Scootsy’s curated restaurant network, and aid the company in its expansion to newer cities.

The Swiggy team said that the acquisition is in line with its vision to provide a superior consumer experience and the widest restaurant choices for consumers. Swiggy will also expand its existing network of 40,000 restaurants by adding more curated restaurants.

“Scootsy is a well-loved brand that enjoys loyalty from both its restaurant partners, and the consumer,” Swiggy CEO Sriharsha Majety was quoted as saying in a press release.

This announcement comes days after Swiggy announced the launch of its subscription service - Super. Also, this year, Swiggy entered the unicorn club after it raised funds of $210 million at a valuation of $1.2 billion.

“We, at Scootsy are excited to become a part of India’s largest food ordering and delivery platform,” said Sandeep Das, CEO, Scootsy. "As we continue to evolve with our much-loved user experience, our users will benefit from Swiggy’s operational excellence and deep understanding of the ecosystem."

Scootsy was founded in 2015, and the platform provides customers the choice of ordering from different restaurants, bakeries and gourmet stores.

The acquisition will enable Scootsy’s expansion across Mumbai, as well as propel its foray into four to five major Indian cities in coming months. "As we continue to evolve with our much-loved user experience, our users will benefit from Swiggy’s operational excellence and deep understanding of the ecosystem," said Sandeep.

This is Swiggy’s second acquisition this year. It had earlier acquired internet kitchen - 48East.
