7 fierce women from the Marvel Cinematic Universe we love
From the Black Widow to Captain Marvel, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has dazzled us with some strong, amazing and badass women on-screen.
As the Avengers take on their biggest challenge on-screen next week, we take a look at a few women from the Marvel Cinematic Universe who we have admired and enjoyed seeing throughout the years. All of these women - superheroines or otherwise - have different skills, power, and talents and each of them has inspired us in some way.
Captain Marvel
The latest addition to the Avengers, Captain Marvel’s story begins in 1989 when Carol Danvers accidentally becomes Captain Marvel after two alien civilisations get into a conflict and Earth gets caught in the middle of it. Not only is Carol extremely strong because of her superpowers, but she is also very self-aware and accepts her vulnerabilities. Level-headed with a great sense of humour, she is also kind and understands people and what drive or limit them. As Carol, she reminds us how to own who we are and be proud of it. As Captain Marvel, she teaches us how to keep an eye on the larger picture without distraction.
Black Widow
Black Widow’s backstory hasn’t been explored in details in any of the Avenger movies yet. She is one of the original Avengers having being recruited within S.H.I.E.L.D. itself. Her real name is Natasha Romanoff, and she is a Russian spy who defected to the US. She is intelligent, capable, and a really good fighter. A highly confident and competent person, Black Widow never suffers fools. She is a team player, level-headed but also spontaneous, making it impossible to not like her. Black Widow is unapologetic about herself and that is something we can all learn from her.
Pepper Potts
Pepper Potts was first seen in the Iron Man movie. Over the years, she has evolved from the punctual and reliable assistant of Tony Stark aka Iron Man to the CEO of Stark Industries and later, Tony’s fiancée. She has always held her own, spoken her mind, and a fair leader. She might not be a superhero, but every time there’s a crisis in Iron Man’s life, she delivers. In her sleek and chic business suits, Pepper has proven to be a great partner and the one to look towards in any crisis. She is also brave, outspoken and someone who can hold her own in front of Tony Stark - something we all aspire to be!
Gamora
Gamora Zen Whoberi Ben Titan is the adopted daughter of Thanos, the supervillain of the MCU . She is the last of her own species. An elite combatant, Gamora has superhuman strength and ability. She is selfless but also a warrior at heart. Determined and fearless, Gamora is never one to give up on what is right and what she believes in. Even though she grew up under Thanos, she is steadfast, loving and level-headed, always ready to stand up for what matters.
Scarlet Witch
Scarlet Witch’s is one of the most powerful Avengers in the series. Initially a minor antagonist, she defects to the Avengers after realising she could actually help people with her powers. She is bold and fearless, and also protective of the people she loves. Her resilience and fierce loyalty make her a fan favourite.
Agent Maria Hill
S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill is smart, brave, sassy, and sharp-witted. She is someone who commands authority, and is a high ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. member working with the Avengers. She is dependable, trustworthy and can get you out of a spot quickly. Without her, Nick Fury would never be able to keep the operations at S.H.I.E.L.D. running smoothly.
Okoye
Okoye, seen in Black Panther, is a fierce warrior and protector of Wakanda. She is a skilled, trained, and dangerous to her enemies. Loyal to her King, Okoye is fearless in performing her duties. She is also someone who is not afraid to question her King and voice her opinion. Who hasn’t wanted to wield that spear with her level of finesse?
