Soon, it will all be over. Who will be crowned King or Queen of the Seven Kingdoms and sit on the Iron Throne? Who will die? And who will remain – to be spoken about for generations to come.

We are talking 'Game of Thrones' here, the most popular TV series in recent times which will be airing its final episode on Monday morning. With the way Season 8 has gone so far, and a number of leaks spoiling it for viewers, we still wait with bated breath, to see where the show will finally go.

If recent episodes are any indication, 'Game of Thrones' has defied all expectations giving viewers many twists and turns and many disappointments as well. Well, the show can’t really go on and on, but the books can, and let’s wait to see whether all’s well that ends well or 'GoT' fans will, after all the excitement and hype, be content with a tepid finale.

Of love and longing

In All the Lives We Never Lived, author Anuradha Roy talks about love, loss, longing, and of motherhood. Centred around Myshkin Rozario, now in the prime of his life, he ponders over why his mother left him at the age of nine with his firm father and helpless grandfather. The setting may be idyllic (think 1930s and 40s Himalayan town), but the story grapples with existing realities with beautiful prose. You see real characters from history – Rabindranath Tagore, Begum Akhtar, and others. From the Himalayan town, you are also transported to Bali where Myshkin’s mother had fled to after a failed marriage. A weekend read, if there was one.

A journey of self-discovery

For all Mahesh Babu fans out there, here is one movie you should not miss. Maharishi, released recently, is the Telugu film superstar’s 25th and is full of surprises for his fans. In the film, Mahesh Babu plays Rishi who hails from a middle-class family and works his way up to become the CEO of a company in the US. But what happens during this journey to the top forms the crux of the film. Along with his inner conflicts, Rishi also loses track of the most important people in his life – his family, friend, and his true love. When he realises what he has lost – the film morphs into “social” mode, and predictably, Rishi returns to India to make up for his mistakes and become a “son of the soil”. The film is emotional and is sure to tug at your heart-strings, however there is nothing new in terms of a strong story line.
