The content creation space is filled with people of different ages, the old and the new. One of the more prominent names in the space is Ashish Chanchlani, a popular YouTube comic star who has a whopping 26.4 million subscribers and over 3.4 billion views. He has established himself as one of the most influential entertainment personalities in the industry.

Ashish shares that it has been a fun and insightful journey to becoming a content creator on YouTube, and says he always strives to create content that is relatable to the public. “The fame that I got is like a dream. It has been wonderful; it has been a rollercoaster ride,” says Ashish.

Ashish’s videos are mostly based on the themes of slapstick comedy and vines. He says that his genre of content is aligned with his personality as he is a very outspoken and loud person. He makes his content based on what people do or say on daily basis, and presents it in the form of an exaggerated or over-the-top skit.

“I have always felt very comfortable in it. It always comes out very naturally to me,” says Ashish.

In terms of planning, improvisation is a key component of Ashish’s content creation process. The team makes content basing on what’s happening in the world around thus the content is never completely planned per se but is structured in a way. “We work from our hearts, that’s what our mantra has always been,” he says.

He explains that it is important to understand what kind of content works on what kind of platform. YouTube, he says, is open to long and short content alike whereas Instagram essentially works with more short-form content. Facebook, on the other hand, is a mixed bag that can work with any sort of content. He adds that it all depends on the retention power of the audience and content creators must find a way to grab the attention of the audience.

In the current times, there are a number of new-age influencers joining the industry to make a mark in the content creation space. Being one of the older players in the industry, Ashish shares a few valuable pieces of advice and lessons that he has learned from his own journey. He says that one must learn to say, and it is an important part of getting by in the industry. Grabbing on to opportunities that one is unsure about is a risk not worth taking. “Never undervalue yourself,” he says. It is very important to take a stand for oneself. He adds that it is important to collaborate and scrutinize every aspect carefully before committing.

Ashish also expresses his love for Schitt’s Creek, his wish to tap into the horror genre, his unconditional support for Captain America in the Marvel universe, and shares many more interesting details in the rapid-fire round of the interview with Influencers Inc by YourStory.
