Amid the COVID-19 crisis, New-Delhi-based cloud kitchen startup Cheferd Foods — which runs brands like POMP, Burger in My Box, and Deli Salad Co — is providing free meal service to daily wagers and marginalised communities.

At present, the startup is distributing meal packets across South Delhi in AIIMS, Safdarjung Hospital, and slum areas around the Okhla region.

According to an official statement, it distributes meals during the lunch hours between 2 pm and 4 pm every day. In fact, Cheferd Foods also changes its menu daily to help serve delicious meals every day.

“Our society is going through an unprecedented time now. However, the most affected people are the ones at the bulging bottom of the pyramid. They are the most vulnerable in this situation. Our food distribution service ensures that we do everything in our capacity to help them in this hour of need,” Sehaj Singh Kukreja, Co-founder, Cheferd Foods, said in a statement.

The startup revealed that it will continue with this initiative for at least one and a half months, and will extend it depending on the situation.

Besides the free meal initiative, the startup is also providing three masks per person to create awareness around the pandemic.

Founded in 2018 by Sehaj Singh Kukreja and Tushar Anand, Cheferd Foods mainly focuses on providing authentic Italian food.

The company revealed that it is distributing around 700 to 800 meal boxes per day. This is expected to be scaled up to 1,500 to 2,000 boxes in the next few days.

Recently, media reports revealed that the Telangana police launched a free lunch service called ‘Seva Ahaar,’ in partnership with Sri Satya Sai Seva Organisations, Leadlife Foundation, Swiggy, Bigbasket, and Hope Organisation. The initiative has been launched to help home isolated COVID-19 patients get access to nutritious meals.

Earlier this week, a citizen-driven community initiative covidcitizens.org was launched to facilitate access to COVID-19 resources, including medicines, oxygen cylinders, beds, blood tests, meal services, plasma, ambulances, and more.

“While the government is doing everything in its capacity, we also must do what we can to support less-privileged people. We can see the impact of our initiative. We believe that even if our efforts bring a smile to the face of a single person, it makes everything that we do a lot more meaningful,” said Tushar Anand, Co-founder, Cheferd Foods.
